Friday Photo – North Clear Creek Falls

One of my favorite sights in the area of Colorado we visit is North Clear Creek Falls. Looking across a valley you cannot see the water flowing in what seems to be a very shallow “creek.” When you visit the newly landscaped “lookout” area you suddenly see this. What a view! I cannot adequately describe the dissonance between what looks like a lazy shallow creek turned amazing water fall. But, maybe you could use your imagination. I know I like to.

Friday Photo – Forsyth, MO Fair

On the bank of Bull Shoals Lake and adjacent to Swan Creek rests the Taney County Fairgrounds. Tommie, Jason, and me walked through the grounds. I am sure Tommie took some better photographs than did her dad. But here are a couple offered in black and white to give the accompanying feel of this small town fair.

Long Pew – Friday Photo

Pews. Bare. Padded. I grew up attending a church with pews. They were padded. Three sections of them. I never really noticed how long the pews were but I do not think they were nearly as long as those in the Sanctuary of St. Monica’s. The architecture at St. Monica’s demonstrated a thoughtfulness and traditional sense of creativity.

I could not get over how long the pews were. Not padded. Extraordinarily long. Beautiful setting.

Friday Photo – Seeing Double

During our recent Family Vacation we took a boat ride with the cameras. There were plenty of Herons on the lake. These two were among about four who appeared to be stalking the shallows. I have a weakness for reflections and this shot gives the eye a good bit to explore in both the objects and their reflections.

Several years ago we made our first trek to Creede, Colorado. Labor Day offers the Creede Salsa Festival. The 4th of July means the Days of 92. We have enjoyed both of these holidays in Creede. Recently we added the “Taste of Creede Arts Festival” over Memorial Day Weekend. One of the features of the two-day event is a “Quick Draw” event for artists. Each participating artist is given one hour to produce a work on the main street in Creede. After the one hour is over an auction is held. The proceeds go to sponsor the next year’s event.

One of the key artists for the event is Steven Quiller. He produced the artwork selected for this year’s event T-Shirt. Quiller chiefly paints with watercolors. He produced a piece for the Quick Draw and then offered an additional piece for the auction. It was quite a treat to watch the artists at work and we were able to take in a good bit of the auction. This is a photo of Steven Quiller standing next to one of the pieces auctioned at the Taste of Creede event.

Still playing around the with the new Lensbaby Composer. One evening earlier this week. I took some photos around the yard. Spurgeon was enjoying the cool grass in the shade as he watched intently for a squirrel – his yard buddies. He never catches them, but he sure gets a workout from tree to tree.

My girls often consider Spurgeon my #1. And, since they have moved on to share lives with their husbands, Spurgeon sure does not mind the attention he receives.

Patty bought me the new Lensbaby Composer for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. I have been too busy to get it out and take some shots with it. But, the other day I did snap a photo of her very red Poppies blooming in one of her flower gardens. If I remember, this shot was take with the Double Glass and the wide angle accessory. I am going to have to do a better job recalling what combination I am using in the future. I plan to get some landscape shots over the next couple of weeks. Maybe even from a surprise location. Who knows.

Friday Photo … Drawn to the Light

Those little brown flying bugs that go by the name “June” provoke shrieks around our place. It may be Patty or one of the girls when they are over. Maybe these grubs turned flying nuisance appear in June in some places, but they have already shown up here in central Oklahoma. We were enjoying a nice cool evening and I watched this little bug play around by our yard lights. Patty thought someone should have taken a photo of me getting these shots lying on the sidewalk. I was simply fascinated at how the bug settled into one spot after flitting around for a bit appearing to soak up the light like a body in a tanning bed.

I still have not processed all of our photos from our Alaska trip. Scrolling through them I spotted this one from the Rain Forrest Photography walk. There were quite a few places along the way to settle in to the stillness afforded us on the trail. The varieties of greens along the walk were amazing. Friday Photo – Surf’s Up

The wind blows in Oklahoma. However, I am in the Windy City. Natalie told us last night the name does not refer to Mother Nature but to windy politicians. If that is the case, just about every major city is “windy.”

When the wind blows at Lake Hefner it brings out the kite surfers. Carried by the wind these surfers put on quite a show.
