Lingering with Resurrection – Thoughts from the Edge

“We celebrate Easter late. The plastic eggs and candy go on sale on Monday.” The young mother wanted her children to have more with the few dollars she had to help them celebrate Easter.

Our culture tends to live under the weight of “on to the next thing.” While this young mother certainly was making a frugal decision, she gives insight into the way retailers handle the just celebrated holiday or season – discount it. I am not sure the way in which the Church moves past Easter does not in some way discount it.

Surely we understand that weekly celebrations of the Resurrection are more than criticsims about “event driven” ministry. Yet, The way in which we move on to the next thing betrays our contention we are not “all about the event.” What would happen if we lingered over Resurrection?” The Christian Seasons Calendar provides space to linger over Resurrection. To live with the new realities brought to bear on life and our world with the Resurrection of Jesus. May this reflection give pause to how quickly you move on to the next thing.
