Naked and Unashamed

I remember Joe Myers talking about the language we use to describe the goal of small groups – intimacy. When considering a definition, Joe offered, “naked and unashamed.” Now no one really wants everyone walking around naked and unahsamed. Well almost everyone. The thing is, in this definition Joe was pointing out how very difficult it for people to be transparent and to receive the transparent “other.”

Bill Kinnon, who is always good for a pointed piece of penetrating sarcasm, offers some thoughts on Paul Young of The Shack fame. I could not help but think about the story behind RealLivePreacher and what risks a pastor/preacher takes to be open, honest and transparent.

The quote that really needs to be read again and again –

If I dare to be transparent, then you’ll know just how broken I am. And that will never do. You’ll know I don’t have it together. I’m not that great of a Christian. (Those who read my blog know that about me already.) I’m not much of a father. Or a husband. Or even a friend.

My brokenness will reveal me as a sinner. And I need you to know me as a saint.
