I recently finished Todd Mangum and Mark Sweenam’s new book, The Scofield Bible: Its History and Impact on the Evangelical Church
Nehemiah presents the Law as the source for community identity as the people of God returned to their once habited land. Luke presents Jesus noting the mis-application of the law of Love would be overturned with his declaration in chapter 4. There is no contradiction in between Law and Grace when these two passages are considered in tandem. Jesus intends to create a community who live by the law of love. A law as it were that functioned in the same way the Decalogue functioned. People would be pointed to what they do not know and corrected in what they mis-perceived, mis-applied, or flatly rejected.
Give it a listen. What are your thoughts?
