(Not) Sponsors – Frank Gantz

Father Frank. No, Frank never participated in a high church tradition. Instead, when I met Frank he was a father. Some of us who came to know Frank while at Oklahoma Baptist University saw this “old guy” and could not resist the reference. In college we became fast friends. We played on the same intramural sports teams. Frank did have quite an arm and was not bad down in the block on the hardwood. Frank is the next highlight in my (Not) Sponsors series.

at-old-key-lime-house2-300x225Everyone has a story. Pulpit2Pew is Frank’s website where he writes out of his story. Frank served as pastor of a small church in Oklahoma while attending OBU. On a few occasions I filled in for Frank in that little church. We studied together. We prayed together.

Frank went on to attend Mid-America Theological Seminary in Mempis. He wanted me to consider the same. Patty and I drove to West Memphis where we stayed with Frank and his family while exploring the area. We ended up heading south to Fort Worth for seminary. Frank went on to graduate and moved to Louisville to pursue a PhD in Church History.

Pastor, church planter, PhD candidate, father and husband. In VanHorn’s description, Frank’s perspective was from the “pulpit.” A series of life-changing events landed Frank in the “pew.” Things have changed since those days in college. You would be encouraged by reading his story. He posted it in an autobiographical series. Frank and I shared more private conversations than I had with any person other than my wife in those early days of college. Time and distance separated us. But, my regard for Frank remains high. We will always share what it means to be “friend.”

Take some time and look around Frank’s website.
