Church as Relationship Rather than Event …

Language reveals. I am excited to see a transition taking place, albeit slowly. Growing up we came to see “Church” as the “hour long event” on Sunday morning. This picture was only second to the idea that going to “Church” meant going to a “building.”

Over the past few years we have sought to sow the reality that the church is not an event nor a building. Evidence of this working out has come as our RA’s and GA’s have cleaned houses, visited those who have been restricted to their homes, taking nursing home residents to the circus, collecting goods for nursing home residents, taking extra food from Wednesday meals to the homes of those who cannot come for health reasons, getting out where young people are and sharing life, praying for your friends and seeing them come to faith and trust Jesus. We ought to continue to press this reality in our Church to greater and greater degrees so that when we gather we simply celebrate the Kingdom of God and its regular activity in life.

I am excited to see what God is doing – and will continue to do.
