Daring to Preach

countdown.jpgPreaching has fallen on hard times. Variously referred to as “talks” or “conversations,” many struggle with what preaching means in a world where the Bible is less and less commonly understood as authoritative in any way. I cannot recall when I began reading Chris Erdman’s blog, but I do remember a series he did on preaching. He noted his “process” of wrestling with a text of Scripture and how that worked itself out into a sermon. Countdown to Sunday: A Daily Guide for Those Who Dare to Preach, contains those thoughts and more. Long ago I stopped reading books on preaching as they all seemed to spin the same thing different ways. If his blog posts on the subject are any indication, this book will be a welcome relief from those offering a “sermon in the box” model.
