On the floor (Cold)play ing with my Best Friend

The seat did not matter. I had never bought tickets to a pop/rock/alternative concert before. When it was announced that Coldplay would be coming to Oklahoma City in July, I accessed Ticketmaster and clicked the button for tickets. Growing up it was about the “seat.” Since I had never been to a concert on par with Coldplay, the seat did not matter. I simply wanted to be in the building.

Patty had agreed to go with me. The July date was postponed. Fortunately the new date fell on an evening we had free – a Sunday evening. Yes, the pastor goes alt rock.

We found our seats in the upper section adjacent stage right. Sleepercar opened and Jon Hopkins followed. After a brief sound check the big fun began. Patty sat on the aisle. Three young girls stood up immediately and it made the stage difficult to see. Patty who really when with me to spend the evening with me and not so much the Coldplay fan knew how hard it was for me to see. After pressing me repeatedly she finally persuaded me to change seats to get a better view – now that is a best friend.

During the second song we were invited to find a seat on the floor. Now that was quite the deal. Upper section, stage right for seats on the floor? No brainer. For the rest of the concert we sang and kept beat with song after song from the floor. We both had quite the time. On the way to the car, Patty said she had a great time and would enjoy another concert or two.

Now, after waiting until 45 to make my first concert, I may make up for missing others by taking my best friend. We enjoyed (Cold)play ing on the floor together.

Thanks Patty for a great evening together.
