I knew the day would soon come. It had to. It has happened before. And it should.
Tommie’s boyfriend, Jason, works for Mid America Christian University. He travels on occasion. Along with a trip to his family’s home for Thanksgiving, he also made a convention in Columbia. His plane would arrive this morning – and Tommie worked.
I volunteered to pick Jason up from the airport. His plane was on time. We shared lunch. We like Jason. He talked about some plans he has for the upcoming semester. He described something of what he sees himself doing down the road. He is a confident young man. We like Jason.
He knew Tommie was at work so we drove over so he could see her and if she was not terribly busy he would hang out there until she was off work. But, she would be busy and I would take him to his apartment to crash – it had been a long, poison ivy filled weekend. Oh the itching.
We arrived at Starbuck’s. Tommie stepped out for just s moment to greet me, the Dad who brought the boyfriend by. No, she greeted Jason. He got the first hug. I got the second. I still like Jason. Adjusting to the second hug.
Craig should get Kimberly’s first hug – they are married. Jason, well, I guess he should get the first hug too … adjusting …
Although you might get the second hug somtimes that is the one we need the most!! Without your hugs we wouldn’t be who we are today!! Love ya daddy!
Too nice.
