Why move the Blog? …

My issues were not with Typepad. In fact, I like Typepad. I had two runs with Typepad. When I first started blogging I found the format easy to learn. I then moved to Blogger – it was free but not as versatile. Daniel helped us install Typepad on our own server and we enjoyed that for a season – forced us to learn some code but still a big fan. We then decided new features gave us greater versatility and moved back to Typepad’s service where we have been for a while.

Daniel who helped a great deal with all things web and blog neared the end of his degree at OU and we began thinking about maintenance of our website. Recently Typepad came out with “Pages” and we decided to utilize a format we had familiarity with to park our church website – Snow Hill (still under construction).

It would have been very easy to leave my blog where it was. However, from time to time I may write things that are not necessarily common convictions of my church. Blogs for some are narcissistic (so says my friend Jeff). For most I know it is a place to write and work through thoughts and ideas in somewhat of an online community. As people find out about your blog they read and comment and the interactions often help refine and clarify. Some write as a discipline and so it often takes the form of journaling. It is public in hopes common struggles may be an encouragement. Others love to write and blogging provides an outlet. I blog for all of these reasons.

Not long ago my blog was evaluated for my links by a long time friend. Since that time I felt it best to “own” my own blog. I pay for it. I maintain it. I write. Please do not get the idea me and the church I love are at odds. Quite the contrary. However, in my thinking and reading I am at places others may not be nor understand without long conversations, shared reading and the struggling to new understandings. Many of our folks read my blog. I hope they continue with a view to learning with me. So, for now I am getting used to WordPress and one day will get my links, blogroll and other items up so keep checking back from time to time to read and see what is new.

Next up … Why “The Edge of the Inside?”
