A young familiar face greeted me when I opened up Facebook this morning. He will never be an old friend. Cameron did not live long enough. (more…)
Twenty-nine years ago this month we sat in a booth at Coit’s at 39th and N. Pennsylvania. The years have blurred my memory. We likely had cheeseburgers and frosty mugs of root beer. Not the likely scene for a proposal. Alas, I was a student and Patty was a Teacher’s Aid at an elementary school. The budget did not allow for Jamil’s. And, Coit’s was one of our favorite places. Lots of memories from high school. That is when we began dating – in high school.
It was there at Coit’s I asked Patty to make what we had already talked about official. Rather than wait until I graduated from college, we would get married in June. After thinking about it, we decided to move the date up to March 18, 1983. Kimberly came along until 1985 and Tommie in 1988. Looking back we are glad we did not wait to get married.
All of this came rushing back to my mind when I read the Coit’s family had put their drive-in’s up for sale. I think we bought our first Christmas tree in 1983 from the Coit’s Christmas Tree Lot at the same location.
In a few months we will celebrate #29, #33 if you begin when we started dating. By then, we will be grandparents again. Max may even arrive before Christmas. Cohen was 16 months (14 adjusted) yesterday.
We plan to make a visit for one last frosty mug of root beer. Soon.
