The planks likely served another purpose when new. Years, wear, and layers of paint combined to give the air of nostalgia. We have little trouble with re-using common items for different purposes.
Tables bring people together. This table that may be constructed from plants used in other ways sat in a cafe in Antigua. The four of us talked about life, our stories, and faith. Sure. We could have talked about these subjects on the front porch or in a living room. Around the table we shared these stories with a meal.
Jesus is often found telling stories and throwing parties – in the words of Andrew Jones. There, at those tables, life that is meets life that may be. The power of those stories become the place where discoveries are made where we may find ourselves like this table. Once comprised of a host of experiences of the past now forged and re-purposed for the good of others in the name of Jesus.
