Movements …

A friend posted an essay titled, “In Distrust of Movements.” The following quote set the premise for the piece,

“The movements which deal with single issues or single solutions are bound to fail because they cannot control effects while leaving causes in place.” (from Wendell Berry’s article in Resurgence issue 198)

There are certain implications for following Christ if this premise is correct. Going to seed on one issue will fail in communicating the whole of Christianity. We tend to avoid issues that mean we must wrestle with our lifestyle or habits and so give the perception that our faith is only important in relationship to those areas of our life wherein we are comfortable. I am nor sure Jesus intended us to be comfortable.
